Understanding today’s young & adults
Have you visited the National Stadium lately on a Sunday morning? You will supprise by the huge population of young and adult men who engage in various sports activities, who are avoiding the church. Compare to some years ago, the young and adult ones are avoiding the church and also becoming too difficult to manage in most of our churches and ministries today. Understudying these group of people we need to know that today’s young and adult are
1. Need Oriented: they wants their personal needs to be meet. They will attend any program that focus on their needs. One of the strategy of growth is to know what the need of the community we are is and try to see how to meet them
2. Success Desire: today’s young men loves to be successful in life. They are interested in any program that can propel them to be successful in life.
3. Influenced by Social Media: it has become a powerful tool in shaping the mind of the young people. Their phones is the last and the first thing they check before and after bed. The church needs to use these means also.
4. Skepticism mindedness: they don’t believe you until you’ve proven yourself.
5. Moved by Entertainment: Drama and Music has a great effect on them. Musical concerts is their rallying point
6. Personal Benefit: they are not fully interested in what will not benefit them personally. Therefore, get to know them and get them involve.
7. Hates Old generation way of church service: old school methodologies don’t work for them
8. Appreciate good leadership: they will follow any man that has charisma, vibrant and possesses good leadership ability. We must keep developing ourselves.
9. Understand only one language ‘EXPRESSION’: they will attend any church that allows them to express and showcase their gifts and talents.
10. Time conscious: they love to attend churches where they are very time conscious, this generation of people hates long church service hours
11. Controlled by friends: they will often like sheep follow in the footsteps of their friends. Therefore, one of the easiest way to capture these people for God is through personal evangelism
